September 11, 2008

Thank you Wislawa.

Where were you September 11, 2001? Before the tragedy, I remember it was a beautiful sunny day and only recall the weeks that followed as somewhat of a fog. What I can’t remember though is whether or not I appreciated the beauty of the morning on that morning. Today, the weather here is cloudy/rain-ish, but not dreary enough for me to forget I am blessed with family, friends, coffee, delicious Vietnamese food--the poetry that makes up a life.

On 9/11, I was living in Tallahasse, FL and had just started teaching at FSU, where I was also getting an MA degree in English.

That morning, I had just gotten out of bed after a long night of reading. I turned on the TV in the middle of the mayhem, the planes were just hitting the towers.

That was a frightening semester to be at a university; the students were fighting (verbally and physically) and being a teacher meant you would moderate all kinds of angry conversations.
